My parenting for the past week has changed. I went from being a stay at home, maternity leave mom back to my full-time working gig. As any working mom will tell you, this is no small feat. Any family with small children who juggles this balance will tell you it’s not easy.
I’m lucky to have a partner who has picked up the parenting duties. Mr D was been spending the days with the kids, we meet after I’m done work and switch – he goes to work and I walk home with my two children and lovable scruffy dog.
The daily flurry of text messages has kept me entertained from this full-time dad. Such classics as:
“Since when has Miss P started making this high-pitched screeching noise?”
“I never have even a minute to myself! I just want to sit down and watch a TV show.”
“Can’t you just unload the dishwasher? It would help us in keeping up with the cleaning.”
Our parenting styles have always been different, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Our children can benefit from two different styles and we can learn from each other as well. Mr D is way more consistent and constant. I tend to be more likely to toss it all to the wind and try a creative, spontaneous approach. Mr D tends to try and tell the kids how to do it, where as I ask more questions about what they think. We both challenge them to do it independently, respond with love and affection and involve them in our daily activities.
Lazy Lemonade
Rolling in at the end of the day, I need quick and easy. I created lazy lemonade to give me a quick sparking beverage for me as a “well done” for completing another day. It is delicious on it’s own, or if you have had one of those days, add 1 oz vodka.
