Camping on the Go: The Art of One-Night Stays

We frequently have trouble deciding where to go for the weekend camping trip. We have so many options within our ideal 3-4 hour radius, it’s hard to focus on just ONE place for the weekend. So a couple weekends ago, we decided to take the show on the road and see where we landed. We had a few campsites within our radiuses we were looking at. We ended up staying at the Thompson Creek Provincial Recreation Area & Brazeau River Campground.

Tips to Rock the Camping Loop

Pick a pull-through or easy to level site

Be wise in your site selection – pick a pull-through site or a level back-in site that you can easily get in and out of. If pitching a tent, use weight on the interior corners instead of potentially putting tent pegs in (don’t do this in high winds).

Have a few options of campgrounds

If you are rocking the road, have a few ideas of campgrounds you could potentially camp at, large retailers or rest stops you can use (check your local province or state regulations).

Pull out your favourite must-have gear

Look for simple activities to keep you and your family occupied, don’t pull out the items in the back of the storage compartment or large items that are harder to put away. Pick the easy well-worn favourites.

Keep the meals easy & quick

Time for the real food you prepared before you left? You bet. This isn’t the time to perfect your dutch oven recipes! It’s the time to grab and go with the muffins you made before you left home, or the favourite cereals and in-season vegetables that you brought.

Happy exploring & cheers to finding more adventures this summer outside.
