Witty Reads for Mom: Suburban Haiku
I’m one of those weird people who read like it’s going out of style. In my child-free days, I could easily devour 3 to 5 novels in a week without coming up for air. My books went with me everywhere, and if I needed a little downtime, you’d find my nose shoved into a novel. My husband will come to bed several nights a week where I am asleep with my novel or e-reader in my hand.
Since becoming a mom, I read less than I used to, but still voraciously. I prefer things that are quick reads, or easily books that I can come back to later (aka not complicated plots that my tired brain can’t handle). I wanted to share with you my favourite witty reads that I have read lately that fall into this category.
The Sarcastic Friend Who Sums It Up in 17 characters
I admit, I love a good wine and chat. I have a few truly hilarious friends who have a dry wit and sarcastic humour that never fail to make me smile. Reading Peyton’s book was like that for me. She dives into the suburban world in the impressive 3 line, 17 character haiku and just in a few short lines cuts it to the quick. All the basics of the suburban mom life are featured – PTA, carpools, and dreaded chore wars.
If I had to pick a favourite it would be:
It takes having kids
to truly appreciate
Magic Eraser.
This is a great little book – easily portable at approximately 6×6″. It makes a terrific coffee table book or book to provide a mom in your little with a little humour! It’s all funny, just because it is so true. You can’t tell me you haven’t had one of the thoughts run across your mind in this book.
