TheInspiredHome.org // Paper Plate Sun Craft. This simple colourful paper plate & paint craft is sure to be a hit with your little people.

Paper Plate Sun Craft

This time of year, the sun, moon, and stars are popular with kids of all ages. Kids will love this super-simple interactive rising sun paper plate craft. With just a few supplies, kids will be able to make their very own rising and setting sun! We love making paper plate crafts, and this sun craft was a fun addition to our collection of paper plate crafts and would be the perfect craft to use alongside any plants, solar system, or sun studies.

Supplies Needed:

  • 3 paper plates
  • Washable paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Cotton swabs
  • Scissors
  • Brads
  • Glue
  • Craft sticks

How to Make the Paper Plate Sun Craft

In this craft, the middle paper plate acts as the sun, while the bottom and top plates act as the ground and sky.

Cut one paper plate in half.

Cut another paper plate in half, trimming off the very top edge, leaving the ridged bits of the plate. These will become the sun’s rays.

Align the three plates with the whole plate at the back, the sun plate in the middle, and the halved plate on top. Use a brad to secure the three plates together in the center of the bottom plate.

Unhook the brad and paint the sections of the craft individually. If you want this craft to be less messy, you can go ahead and purchase yellow, blue, and green paper plates. Then, the sun plate would be cut from the yellow plate, the whole plate would be blue, and the halved plate would be green.

Paint the center section to look like a sun, using red, orange, and yellow paint to streak sun rays across the ridges of the plate. Wait for the paint to dry.

When the paint is completely dry, glue a craft stick to the edge of the sun plate.

Stack the three plates together with the sun plate in the middle and the green plate on top. Secure with the brad.

Glue the edges of the green and blue plates together, leaving the center plate free.

Glue a craft stick to the right edge of the sun.

When the glue dries, use the craft stick to help the sun rise and set by pulling it around the plate.

The sun craft is complete!
