Washcloth lollipops are a simple and sweet addition to any baby shower gift from baskets to bouquets to diaper cakes, they can be tucked into any gift. They are very simple to assemble and are a great way to include some popular baby items in a cute manner. This is a very image-heavy post demonstrating each step of the way but I guarantee that once you make one, you will find they take only a few minutes each to assemble. Typically baby spoons come in a pack of 4 or 6 so I will make as many lollipops as there are spoons in the packaging. I have found some great spoons by Munchkin that turn white if the food is too hot for baby. They come in a pack of 4 and the washcloths I buy come in a pack of 8 so it works out perfectly! If yours doesn’t work out as perfectly, simply save some for the next baby gift you will inevitably have to make. Washcloth Lollipop Tutorial
Items Required
For each lollipop you will require the following:
- 2 x baby washcloths – I like to use 1 patterned and 1 solid-colour cloth
- 1 x baby spoon
- straight pin
- scotch tape
- cellophane
- coordinating narrow ribbon
Instructions
Lay your washcloths in front of you in a diamond shape with the wrong side up. Fold the top and bottom corners in about 1″.
Start rolling up from the bottom. You want each roll to be about 3/4″ wide. Adjust the fold at the top accordingly to allow it to match up with the roll. Follow the same process with the second washcloth.
There are different ways to roll your washcloths together so each lollipop has a bit of a different look. For a spiral, lay one rolled cloth on top of the other without about 1″ difference between them (see picture below). Roll them up tightly. Secure end with straight pin.
For a double-layer effect, roll one washcloth tightly; then, roll the other washcloth around that coil tightly. Secure end with a straight pin. You can have two different looks with this style: solid-coloured cloth in the middle or patterned cloth in the middle.
Decide which side of the lollipop looks nicer (one side always looks tidier). Flip the lollipop over with the seam facing down (it will be unnoticeable once the cellophane is on). Tape the spoon to the back of the lollipop.
Next you need to cut a square of cellophane. As all washcloth brands are different sizes, I cannot give you an exact measurement. To get an idea of size comparison, see picture below.
Getting a snug fit with few wrinkles on the front of the lollipop can take a few tries. I like to fold the top of the cellophane over the lollipop and tuck the sides between the layers sort of like wrapping a present in paper. I tried to take a photo to demonstrate this.
Once you do this, the front of the pop should remain fairly smooth. Gather the cellophane at the base of the pop, straightening as necessary. Tie the cellophane with your ribbon in a pretty bow. You will probably need to trim the ends of the cellophane to look nice and neat. I simply took my scissors and cut on an angle down towards the spoon. Voila! You’re done!
I hope this tutorial accurately explained how to make washcloth lollipops for use in your baby shower gift. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask below. Have you made these before? Do you have another simple addition you like to make for baby shower gifts? Let us know!
