New Vs. “Vintage”

New Vs Vintage
I read a lot of books as a child. Truth be told, I still do.

My parents instilled in me a love of reading that just won’t quit. My husband joking refers to me as a bookworm, any given night I will be sitting in bed with my book. When a new one by my favourite authors comes out, forget it, I tune out the world.

These stories that I enjoyed as a kid, and then more recent books I’ve read seem to being turned into shows.

I have nothing against this! Books, however, are rich and deep with details and nuisances. I remember when I first started watching Harry Potter on the big screen, the characters and what their voices and inflections I imagined in my head were wiped clean by the movie versions. Some of the characters to my way of thinking just seemed wrong.

I had pictured the character, heard them and imagined them so much differently than the director had cast them. It was hard to come to grips!

The same thing happened to me tonight as I watched a show on Netflix with my children. The Carebears are back! Somehow through reading about them and watching the “old” show, my version seemed different than the new one.

Do you remember the Countdown?

Most of the original bears are still part of the crew, although their symbols have been updated. Many of the cousin bears were also added. It checks out in my book, although I will keep watching to refresh my memory on all the bears.

My kids were enthralled.

The lessons on caring and sharing are just important as they were in the “vintage” series. (I have a hard thing calling the older series vintage because it just makes me feel old).

What other “vintage” cartoons do you enjoy with your kids?
