30th Birthday Gift Idea: 30 Presents for 30 Years

I love birthdays. I love coming up with the perfect idea to celebrate someone’s special day. You may recall the Dirty Thirty Gift Basket I made for a friend last summer. It was a hit with everyone especially the birthday girl. I like gifts that are not only fun but functional. I also love to make someone see the bright side of a milestone birthday such as their thirtieth. My husband turned 30 last year. He wasn’t looking forward to it so I wanted to make it extra-special for him. I should also mention that I told him to quit whining as I’m a year older!

My grand idea for his 30th birthday was to surprise him with 30 gifts! This is an idea that can easily get quite pricey if you’re not careful. Many of the gifts were under $5. I bought one large item, a couple of mid-range items and kept everything else under $20. I’m not sure exactly how much I spent but I wasn’t too bothered as it was all for my hubby. I think the hardest part of this gift was coming up with 30 ideas! I bought him a few shirts and each of those was considered a gift. Splitting up similar items into individual gifts will not only save you money but also brainpower!

I wanted to keep him guessing so I wrapped each gift in brown kraft paper (or a paper bag or manilla envelope) – it’s economical and can be decorated any way you like. I went simple and printed the numbers 1 – 30 on full-size label sheets, punching them out with a circle punch. You could easily draw or stamp fun designs onto them to spruce them up.

Hubby leaves for work before I get up in the morning. I numbered the gifts according to when I wanted him to open them throughout the day. There were a couple in the bathroom that contained items such as new underwear, socks and shirts. Next there was a box of his favourite Keurig coffee wrapped up on the kitchen counter and a few other items such as a new cell phone case and a car charger for his phone. When he came in from work, Miss O had a few gifts to greet him with – these consisted of toys that were actually for her but that daddy would enjoy playing with as well!

I think for his 40th birthday I will just buy him 20 new pairs of socks and wrap each sock separately….
