Decorating for your child’s first birthday party doesn’t have to be difficult. Making this simple banner using old onesies is a simple way to decorate for a 1st birthday party using items found around your home. It’s also a fun way to showcase just how much your child has grown in the first 12 months of their life!
Onesie Banner Tutorial
Items Required
- Onesies in each size from their first year (NB/3mos/6mos/9mos/12mos)
- Ribbon or string
- Clothespins x10
How-To
Pick your 5 onesies from that giant stack of clothes you’ve saved since they were born. If you never organized them, perhaps now is the time! I tried to pick onesies from the same brand (Carters) with little sayings or pictures on them in a variety of colours.
Lay the onesies out in a line on a flat surface. Measure how much ribbon or string you will need by laying it across the tops of the onesies. Leave extra room at the ends for tying it off.
Use a clothespin on each shoulder to pin it to the ribbon or string. I decorated my clothespins. You can learn how to make them in my 12-month Birthday Banner post. The only alteration I made was instead of putting jewels on the ends of the clothespins, I used hot glue to attach buttons in a variety of sizes on the ends.
Once you’ve attached the onesies, find the perfect place to hang your banner!
