2 Simple Ice Experiments to Try
My kids have a new favourite show on Netflix. They are groovin’ with Sid the Science Kid right now. Of all the TV shows they could watch, I’m really enjoying this one. There are so many ways we can try simple experiments that relate to Sid at home.

Of course, when I whip one of these easy activities up, my kids look at me like I’m super science mom. Who doesn’t love that?

If you haven’t watched Sid yet, he’s a regular kid who goes to a preschool that is really into STEM from what I can tell. He sings a few catchy tunes on the way to school, at school and coming home from school. He likes to ask big questions and all the adults in his world help him try a few things out in the real world.

Simple Ice Pops

Simple recipe that can show how liquid can change into a solid.

Items Needed:

-Popsicle Sticks
-Dixie Cups
-1 bananas
-Fruit juice (we used orange)

How to make it happen:

-Cut your banana into 1″ chunks.
-Stick popsicle sticks into bananas, stand upright in Dixie Cups
-Pour in 1/2 a Dixie Cup full of juice (just before bananas start floating away).
-Freeze in the freezer for several hours, then peel off Dixie Cup and enjoy.

Rainbow Ice Cubes

Simple bath tub fun changing a solid back into a liquid

Items Needed:

-Ice Cube Tray
-Water
-Food Colouring

How to make it happen:

-Fill ice cube tray 3/4 full.
-Add a different food colouring to each square pair.
-Freeze in the freezer for several hours, then take to the bath tub at bath time for fun play.

(Be advised the cubes will melt fast – you probably need a tray or two to do some painting!

What simple science experiments have you tried?
