I’ve noticed the mornings have been chillier lately. I pulled out my fleece sweater to wear on the way to work. Most of the plants in the garden are done for the season, or have started bursting into flower to create seed for next time. The leaves from the trees are slowly turning yellow and beginning to fall off. This signals fall is coming here in Alberta.
I’m not ready yet. I’m still soaking up the rays of the gorgeous sunshine, and dreaming of nights with my kids around the campfire, swimming in lakes and the ever-present smell of sunscreen. With just one short week before Mr J starts Kindergarten, this is the last chance, last ditch effort of summer right now. It’s not to be wasted!
Camping in the Backyard
We pulled out Ms P’s new tent as one last hurrah of summer! In true adventure fashion, things did not go according to plan. The weather in our neck of the woods has been crazy as of late, with tornado warnings, and hard, heavy rain. Not exactly the right weather for camping. Especially not when trying out a new tent. Thankfully, since we just completed a new garden shed building, we opted to put up our tent in it.
Now I know all you hardcore outdoor enthusiasts are groaning at me, but hear me out. With little summer left, this was the best option to allow us to squeeze our last ditch camping trip in. For two little outdoor kids who have never slept in a tent, only ever an RV, it was a good small step into tenting too.
We put up our tent together, inflated the air mattress, rolled out the sleeping bags, and put on our warm and fuzzies to settle in. We also brought along some of our favourite ponies and cars for the ride to play with in case we got bored.
The total winner of the trip were are Coleman lanterns and headlamps. Even with the cold night, the Duracell Quantum batteries kept them shining all night, making the tent far less spooky. My kids are used to sleeping with a night light, so these small lights in the tent proved to be really comforting. Use Duracell in your favourite outdoor devices to #PowerMoreSummer.
In case you’re wondering how the Duracell Quantum did in our other devices, we can confirm they power more geocaching, more late night flashlight adventures, more air mattress inflations, and more outdoor night lights to help find the marshmallow sticks.
