Forging Back To School Traditions
Oh summer, the bliss. Swinging through cedar trees, catching frogs and hanging out at the beach. When back to school time came around, my brothers, sister and I were reluctant to turn in our flip flops! We had a bunch of fun traditions that we did each year to get us ready though. Slowly but surely, eventually we were ready.
Shopping Spree!
We would each grab our list of supplies and needed clothing items. My favourite part is that each fall we each got a pair of new shoes. My running shoes didn’t see much action in the summer (always barefoot). Come fall, running shoes were always my favourite thing to wear and shop for. My mom loved shopping with us at Sears Canada, because of their kidvantage guarantee. Sears carries a variety of top quality brands at reasonable prices – and carries all the styles your kids love! Now living rurally, I continue to shop at Sears, and pick-up my order at the local catalogue store and save the shipping bill.
Pick Your New After-School Activity
Every season came with new activities to try, helping physical, social and mental development. Typically my choice was basketball but I also tried dance, and rugby just to name a few. My sister loved dance, and my brothers tried hockey (one liked it, one didn’t!)
First Day of School Pictures
One of my mom’s favourite traditions was to take a picture of us before we went off to our first day of school. When I used to participate in this, I thought it silly. Looking back at it now, I really appreciate these pictures, even with the bright neon colours and my interesting outfit choices.
#RockTheHalls with Sears
This year, throughout the month of August, Sears Canada will be, and has been, helping families with school-aged children get ready for back-to-school so they can Rock the Halls! Across Canada, Sears will be, and have been, surprising shoppers by providing their purchases to them for FREE!
As a Recreation professional, I’m also encouraged to hear of their partnership with the Boys & Girls’ Club of Canada. Together they are ensuring the children of today also connect with those quality recreation, education and social development through their after school programming. These kind of partnerships can only strength today’s children and make them reach their full potential. To help out with this year’s back-to-school season, Sears Canada and Converse are giving B&G Clubs across Canada $10,000 worth of apparel to Rock The Halls.
{Giveaway} a $100 Sears Gift Card
Sears is still not done! They are offering one of our readers a $100 gift card for you to Rock The Halls too. Enter below and tell us what you would buy for back to school.

That’s a thoughtful idea! Or maybe contribute clothing staples (gym socks, shirts, pants) to a local school board with a clothing bank for high school students. Seems that there are teens in need to get Physical Education attire or even regular clothing for going to school, especially if they live on their own.
